In June of 2008 at Charlottesville's OUTBACK LODGE, several local musicians came together for an experimental jam session with the intent of creating locally-inspired salsa music. Promoted by BUTCH BAILEY, founder of the CVILLE SALSA CLUB, the unforgettable meeting laid the foundation for what is now known as CONJUNTO SASON.
The mix of ethnicities and flavors gave birth to a colorful sound with the combination of charanga and conjunto. CONJUNTO SASON created a selection of spicy rhythms to keep them all on the dance floor.
Oscar Bravo took the lead saying " We need more, we can do it better!" and after that memorable night he started "recruiting" musicians trying to give to his band the sound he always dreamed to find.
Starting by
HUMBERTO SALES (Brasil) --professional GUITAR player who brings his own harmonies and unique style. Salsa, cumbia, samba, flamenco, whatever you want on guitar-- he's got It!
MARIO DUQUE (Colombia) --experienced PIANO player who had performed with several latin bands and also helps our chorus creating different harmonies.
HECTOR ZAMORA (Mejico) --what to tell you. I had the fortune to count with him; his style allows him to almost "play by ear" the original BASS sounds that aren't written but just playing from his heart.
LAURA CARR (USA) --an amazing musician, skilled to play almost anything I want. There are no challenges for her when it comes to VIOLIN.
CHRISTIE WILSON (USA) --the good and the best, the best and the good. No point of discussion; along with Laura unbelievable on VIOLIN.
DAVID TRIPLETT: spicy and loud on his trumpet solos.David shows his great skills as jazz musician and when it comes to latin flavor ,hum You got to listen to him.
STEPHAN DEMETRIADIS."Mr. trombon" .Stephan is very well known for his heavy sound on his trombon solos,He added to our band a "fat" sound,a strong sound, that makes everybody turn their heads toward the stage, stand on their feet and dance his 'mambos'.
ASHOK THOLPADY (USA) --I'm in trouble here. I'll run out of space if I want to describe this guy. From the medical school, at first I thought "He's a "nerd", always focusing on his studies--but what a surprise! He started playing the piano with our band then he decided to jump to SAXOPHONE...weeks later he decided to switch to TRUMPET and now (just by now) he's stuck on TROMBONE--just amazing!
KEVIN ORTIZ (PUERTO RICO) --the 'crazy boy'. Distinguished percussionist. He can play almost everything that responds to a 'slap'. You got to see Him on TIMBALES.
PEDRO ZAMORA (MEJICO) --Very young and very skilled on Congas. His speed and technique on his 'solos' make him a core element of our band.
ARNALDO MARRERO (PUERTO RICO) --totally percussion! This is the last part of the percussion puzzle. BONGOES and COWBELLon fire. Raised in the streets of PR. When it comes to mambo, listen to him.
OSCAR BRAVO( COLOMBIA) --LEAD VOCAL. Made himself a band leader to bring his knowledge about salsa music and put It on the stage. Dancing, singing and happiness on stage.
All of this could never be accomplished without the support, dedication, passion, and "addiction" for salsa of Mr. BUTCH BAILEY, PRESIDENT, FOUNDER, MANAGER and so many other positions of the CHARLOTTESVILLE SALSA CLUB--the longest non-stop salsa venue in VIRGINIA,USA. Celebrating very soon its 7th year's anniversary and TERRY the OUTBACK LODGE'S OWNER who had made it possible for us and all the bands in Town to have a spot to practice, promote and play our music. THANK YOU ALL !!!
